My family’s small pharmaceutical company in Taiwan, Wu-Fu Laboratories, currently has a very rudimentary IT infrastructure (just a bunch of PCs, to be more exact). The Great Leader of the company (the CEO and my dad) has commissioned me to design and implement a simple enterprise resource planning system (ERP) for the company, starting with a system for document storage and retrieval.
The project is named Kavalan Management System, after the indigenous people who inhabited the modern-day Yilan County in Taiwan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kavalan_people). It is based on the Django Framework and designed to be used with MySQL/PostgreSQL and Nginx+Apache 2. The project is released under BSD license on Github. Kavalan is still VERY MUCH a work in progress, but an elementary system for secure document storage and retrieval called Doc Engine is almost complete. If you have time, feel free to take a look at the project; I would love to hear any feedback you have to offer.
As I work through the process of writing, debugging and deploying each component of the system, I will try to post what I have learned on this blog. I hope that you will find some of the information helpful.
